Yes it is that time again, another weekend trip. This time Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. I will be perfectly honest, I knew nothing about Slovenia and certainly had no idea what to expect from Ljubljana. Boy was I surprised. Slovenia and Ljubljana are absolutely stunning, not just the amazing scenery but the people, the architecture. Everything about the country surprised me.
Slovenia from the air
We landed at Ljubljana airport around midday on the Friday, met our pre-arranged transport and made our way into the capital.
North Stradbroke Island
Our relatives took us for a day out to North Stradbroke Island, which is also in Moreton Bay. It is a much larger island but during off peak season times it has a lower population than Russell Island. This however balloons during the holiday season. Dunwich is the main town on the island, with Point Lookout and Amity Point making up the three main areas.

Part One – Russell Island
This holiday started as all others do, with a flight. Except this trip involved over 24 hours of travelling before we would reach our destination of Brisbane and then on to Russell Island. For those of you that do not know (and to be honest it will be most people as Russell Island is not really a tourist destination) Russell Island is located in Moreton Bay. Here is the Wikipedia page in case you are interested.
Anyway, the journey started with a 12 hour flight to Singapore on Finnair. Business class of course, we did a similar trip 7 years ago in economy and that was a killer, so not this time.
Following on from my trips to London and New York, and the Year in Photos review I have just been to Iceland. More specifically Reykjavik. This trip came about after a late night discussion (and several bottles of wine) about where we should all go to next. Last year was Saariselkä in the north of Finland. Thankfully one of our friends took up the challenge and did the arrangements and what an excellent job she did too, organising our trip through a company called Iceland on Track. What an excellent company that was too, Omar did a superb job as out tour guide and driver for the entire trip. If you ever decide to visit Iceland I thoroughly recommend these guys. Anyway as with all journeys, it starts with a flight. Just as we reached Iceland the Sun was just coming up and it was almost midday.
SAS Flight to Keflavik
Continuing from a previous post “A Finnish Phone in New York” and having seen what phones people are using in London these days it would seem appropriate. I think I saw two Nokia devices in 3 days, other than my wife’s and mine of course. So here is London as seen by my Nokia N8.
Being British most people would think we know London well, not quite so, well not me anyway. I try wherever possible to avoid it, but I did enjoy my weekend this time. The weather was pretty good for this time of year and I got to see some places I have not seen since I was a child. I will now pause for a moment whilst people who know me say “You still are a child”.
We set off Saturday morning from Helsinki Airport, of course the usual procedure took place this time of year, a bit of de-icer on the wings before take off.
The Americans gave us the “American Werewolf in London”, so I thought we should have the “Finnish Phone in New York”. This is just a post about my few days in New York City visiting friends for Thanksgiving and of course I took some photos with my Nokia N8.
This is in no particular order, just some sights as seen by the Nokia N8.First off we will start in a location that any “Highlander” fan will know. It is of course, the location where Macleod meets Kastigir. Now both my wife and myself like the original movie and in all our visits to New York had never managed to see “Bow Bridge” in Central Park. We have now. Here it is along with other photos of Central Park and, of course, some HDR’s.

I am not going to ramble on about the camera, I have already done that in numerous posts, instead I will let the photo’s do the talking. Here are some of my favourites from my own collection over the past year and 11 days of Nokia N8 ownership. My N8 arrived at the flagship store in Helsinki on September 30th 2010, and of course I could not wait to test the camera. So my first photo is from that day.
