Continuing from a previous post “A Finnish Phone in New York” and having seen what phones people are using in London these days it would seem appropriate. I think I saw two Nokia devices in 3 days, other than my wife’s and mine of course. So here is London as seen by my Nokia N8.
Being British most people would think we know London well, not quite so, well not me anyway. I try wherever possible to avoid it, but I did enjoy my weekend this time. The weather was pretty good for this time of year and I got to see some places I have not seen since I was a child. I will now pause for a moment whilst people who know me say “You still are a child”.
We set off Saturday morning from Helsinki Airport, of course the usual procedure took place this time of year, a bit of de-icer on the wings before take off.
It was a beautiful morning in Finland as we took off
After a few hours we were in London and on our way to our hotel, the Hilton on Park Lane. Very nice it was too.
We went to our room on the twentieth floor, and this is the view of London that awaited us.
Obviously my next task was to find a Starbucks close by, for those of you that know me, you will not be surprised. Then a short nap before we went out for a Christmas party with friends/colleagues. Which was the primary reason for being in London. The next day was ours to wander, so that is exactly what we did.
So here are a few places that we visited over Sunday and Monday in no particular order.
Hyde Park is host to the “Winter Wonderland” at the moment.
One of the first things you will see as you enter is ……..
I hope you chuckled, I know we did. Winter Wonderland was pretty cool, host to rides, market stalls, sausage and burger vans etc etc. Good fun 🙂 I nearly forgot to mention, they sell Haribo Cola Bottles here!!
Whilst there we did some normal sightseeing, and visited Constitution Arch, or Wellington Arch if you prefer.
Just over the road from here is Hyde Park and Apsley House
Of course no trip to london would be complete without a shopping trip and there is no where else other than Harrods, I forgot how big it was, damn hard to get in one photo.
After buying a few little things in Harrods we set off again, with no plan in mind, just in the general direction of Buckingham Palace.
From there down the Mall to ….
Anyway you get the general idea so here are a few more photos from the walk.
That evening after searching for somewhere to eat we ended up around Regent Street.
Going up Carnaby Street
We eventually found somewhere to eat and after dinner, as we were in the area. We went to Hamley’s and of course had to see what Lego displays were up.
Ok so it’s Tuesday, our last morning and we were up in time for the sunrise, pretty nice morning it was too.
Now some of you might be wondering where are the HDR photos, well not to disappoint here are a few 🙂
There are a few more photos in my Flickr set and no doubt I will be adding a few more over time. Hope you enjoyed the photos or the Moose or both. Thanks for reading
