The answer is simple, Yes you can! And it is not that complicated to do. As with all photography, the key is, location, location, location. My first two attempts at this are not perfect by a long measure. But they do show what can be done. Hopefully some of you will do much better.
Camera
Before I start, I should point out the title is slightly inaccurate as I had two Pureview devices with me. The Nokia 808 and the Lumia 920, at least for the later part. This post will cover two trips, one last November to San Francisco and the more recent one to Connecticut and Washington DC this April.
Let’s start with San Francisco. The primary reason for the visit was to spend Thanksgiving with friends and of course to do some shopping, so sightseeing was secondary. We did of course manage to see the important sights, such as the cable cars, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Golden Gate – Nokia 808 Pureview
I have been repeatedly asked for the simple setting on how to get long exposures during the day, and what settings are needed on the Pureview.
Of course, as with a DSLR, settings alone are not enough to achieve this and you need additional filters. The ND filter built into the Nokia Pureview is not sufficient for a 2.7 second long exposure alone. It needs help.
We have been going to Gozo now for 10 years so doing a travel guide in photos is almost impossible for me, I just know the island too well now. Things a first-time tourist would notice I take for granted, so this is just my normal Pureview of Gozo, not through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time. I will not really do this is any kind of chronological order – as we were there for 3 weeks, I have several photos of the same place at different times.
For those of you that have never been or even heard of Gozo, it is a small island in the Mediterranean sea and is part of the Maltese island group along with Malta (the largest of the three) and Comino (the smallest of the three). We flew into Malta (Via Air Malta from the UK) over Birzebbuga and St George’s Bay.

As said in the title, this is not a review of the camera. That has already been done countless times, so I thought I would just detail how I use it. So apologies if this post, is for want of a better word, disjointed! Also I will update this post over time as I find new or maybe better ways of achieving different things.
